Have you ever heard the saying, “If you see Buddha on the side of the road kill him”? I heard this the other day and while I don’t believe in guru worship or even worshiping a Buddha statue I find so many faults with that statement. So many that for the next week that quote kept popping into my head. If I saw Buddha on the side of the road in 2019 I would probably ask for a selfie! No, not really. The real thing that came to mind is that what I want is to see Buddha on the side of the road, in fact I do see Buddha on the side of the road every day. I see Buddha in the homeless person hanging out under the bridge, the business man running around the huge office building, the mother raising 3 kids alone, and in every person I see through out my day. In fact I see the Buddha nature in me too which allows me to see it in others. So the next time you see Buddha on the side of the road see yourself and every sentient being.

Worshiping the guru and Buddha is worshipping your own buddha natures potential. If you see a disctiction between those then theres separation, if theres separation then you will never become buddha.
